History

RESULTS was started in America over 30 years ago by Sam Daley-Harris, a teacher who was inspired by a report from the National Academy of Sciences that said that the world possessed all of the resources, structures and technology to end hunger in a single generation but that the political will to make it a priority was missing.

Sam set up the RESULTS network in 1980 to empower and encourage ordinary citizens to create that missing political will. RESULTS was launched in the UK by Sheila Davie, who became our first National Director and was responsible for leading and growing the organisation over here for more than two decades until Aaron Oxley took over in 2009.

Today there are national RESULTS organisations in six countries: The USA, UK, Canada, Japan, Australia and Mexico. Each is a separate organisation in its own right, but we often work together on issues of particular importance and where global action creates a more powerful voice.

Many of our activists have been working with us for many years and have become powerful voices in the fight against poverty. You can see some of the things they have achieved on our Results page - or look at some of our more recent actions to see what they have accomplished.

To find out whether there is a RESULTS group in your community and about how you can get involved, find a local group or contact the office at join@results.org.uk.
