In the year 2000, world leaders committed to a set of goals that would dramatically reduce extreme poverty by 2015. Called the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), they set targets for reducing hunger, disease, and poverty.
Since 2000, RESULTS has been campaigning non-stop to help achieve the MDGs. We focus our campaigning on issues relating to health, education and access to finance as they are key to any functioning society and they are areas on which we have knowledge, experience and understanding of how to make change.
Through our incredible network of grassroots campaigners and our office staff, we campaign for the UK government and the EU to ensure that important organisations that support the Goals, like the Global Fund, the Global Partnership for Education and the GAVI Alliance, are all fully funded. We also work hard to ensure that the policies and practices of those institutions are as effective as they can possibly be.
Here are three things we are trying to achieve right now:
- The inclusion of all disabled children in education programs around the world.
- The UK government to continue and scale up its financial and political support of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and malaria so that it can continue to save 100,000 lives every month
- For all microfinance investors to sign up to the UN convention on responsible micro lending
