World TB Day 2012: Funding for AIDS, TB and Malaria: A looming crisis
The establishment of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS TB and Malaria in 2002 kicked off the one of the most extraordinary decades in the history of public health. The Global Fund has become the largest source of funding for AIDS, TB, and malaria, and fundamentally altered our ability to fight these diseases, saving an estimated 100,000 lives each and every month.

Disabled children are the group most likely to be excluded from school. UNESCO estimates that one third of all children of primary school age who are not in school have a disability, and over 90% of children with disabilities in Africa do not go to school.
It is crucial that the international community supports efforts to get more disabled children into and achieving at school. The UK’s Department for International Development (DFID) have established a policy environment that supports inclusive education.

In 2000, the global community agreed ambitious but fundamentally achievable goals for dramatically increasing the education opportunities available to the world's children. Eight years on, despite some notable progress, there are at least 72 million children are still denied the chance to go to school. The goal of achieving universal primary education by 2015 looks likely to be missed unless urgent and sustained action is taken.

The tuberculosis (TB) bacillus and the HIV virus have formed a powerful alliance and are together responsible for more than five million deaths per year. Weakened immune systems in people with HIV/AIDS is fuelling an increase in TB cases in many parts of the world. In turn, TB is leading to increased mortality rates among people living with HIV/AIDS and complicating treatment.
