Global Goals Day: Spotlighting Health and Education on the Journey to 2030

Five years today, 193 governments agreed upon a set of 17 goals with the mission to end poverty and create a more equitable, peaceful, and prosperous world, ensuring no one is left behind, by 2030. These goals, known as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), provide issue-specific targets across areas such as food security, gender equality...

15 September 2020

A huge thank you to everyone who attended this year’s National Conference on 12 and 13 September - our first ever virtual conference! With so many global challenges and uncertainty ahead, it was great to be able to reflect together and share our achievements, hopes and ideas. It’s been a tough year, with the COVID-19 pandemic emphasising the need for solidarity and for fair global systems that are fit for purpose.

September 2020 RESULTS UK Grassroots Call - UK priorities for poverty reduction

3 September 2020

On this month's grasssroots conference call, we heard from the ONE Campaign's Nasim Salad about the need for the new Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) to prioritise development spending on programmes that focus on poverty reduction and can demonstrate their effectiveness in a transparent way. She shared evidence from ONE's Real Aid Index which provides data on which to base prioritisation decisions. You can...

Polio: A time for celebration or a time for concern?

24 August 2020

As the world prepares to celebrate Africa’s certification as being free of wild polio , we must be mindful of the ongoing challenges we will face as we seek to achieve and sustain polio eradication, such as disruption to polio campaigns due to COVID-19, the rise of polio cases in other parts of the world, and the continuation of a different form of polio in the region (vaccine-derived polio).

Today is, undoubtedly, a moment...

August 2020 grassroots conference call - Global nutrition programmes are at risk

5 August 2020

This month, after electing a new Grassroots Trustee to our Board of Trustees (congratulations Cameron!), we heard about the achievements of grassroots advocacy during the turbulet month of July. With the recently-announced merger between DFID and the Foreign Office to create a new Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), there was lots of activity to report, with many MPs agreeing with your requests for their support for a continued focus of UK aid on poverty reduction, and to...

July 2020 grassroots conference call – Standing up for UK aid

8 July 2020

This month, we discussed how the new Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), announced by the Prime Minister on 16 June, will need to ensure that the UK’s impressive record of using our overseas aid budget to alleviate poverty continues into the future. There is a very important role for advocacy over the next few months, to make sure that the new arrangements in Government and Parliament for deciding and monitoring how UK aid is spent are as effective as they can be. Check out...

Solidarity is our way forward

The RESULTS International Conference (20-21 June) was a gathering unique in the organisation’s history. As well as celebrating the 40 th anniversary of RESULTS, it was our first virtual conference, and our largest ever gathering, with some 800 attendees from over 20 countries, with grassroots advocates and people with lived experience of poverty and oppression from both the US and around the world.

The conference came at a time when the Black Lives Matter movement rightly reinforces...

June 2020 Grassroots Conference Call - Preventing a Double Threat

15 June 2020

This month the grassroots network convened to discuss new predictions made on the impact the COVID-19 pandemic is likely to have on the number of cases of other infectious diseases; TB, HIV and malaria, and why the UK Government should invest in the new CRM-19 mechanism to help mitigate those impacts. Were joined by guest speaker, Mike Podmore, Director of STOPAIDS and civil society board member for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria. This month we'll be meeting MPs to make the...

Saying ‘Black Lives Matter’ is a commitment to change

10 June 2020

Like all of us at RESULTS UK, I have been watching events in the United States unfold with growing horror and dismay. While Minneapolis may seem far away, the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and many other black people speak to the systemic racist structures that are not just limited to the US, but have powerful resonance and relevance in the UK given our country’s own historical legacy and present-day struggle with racism and inequality.

I would urge anyone who...
