My name is Katherine Pittore and I have recently joined Results as the nutrition advocacy officer, helping Results to expand their nutrition advocacy work and develop a longer term strategy on nutrition. I am looking forward to working on nutrition at this exciting time with so much energy around hunger and nutrition. On June 8th the UK are hosting a ‘hunger summit’ before the G8 meeting, and in the short term I will be working  to support a successful summit. We are calling on the UK, foundations and world leaders to come to that summit and make significant pledges of new funding to combat undernutrition.

Before my work at RESULTS  I have been working as an independent consultant writing a number advocacy focused reports on issues including progress towards child survival in South Asia and the economic consequences of childhood malnutrition. I have also worked for Save the Children in India based in Delhi on both emergency and development nutrition programmes and helping with advocacy tours. Previously I worked in the humanitarian team of Save the Children UK working on designing nutrition programmes for humanitarian responses.

I love travel and learning about other cultures and I have also lived and worked in Vietnam, Australia, and Italy among other places.

I am a registered public health nutritionist and I have a master’s degree from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in public health nutrition. I am looking forward to having the opportunity to work on expanding Result’s nutrition policy and advocacy work at a time when there is so much international energy and support for improving nutrition outcomes. One of the issues we hope to achieve is that nutrition is recognized as an important component of the next set of the MDGs, after the present framework ends in 2015.
