Let’s big up the Global Fund!

26 February 2019

In 2015, world leaders signed up to the Global Goals – a vision of a world free from extreme poverty. But progress has been too slow, and we are not on track to achieve targets such as those for health and wellbeing for all.

Diseases like HIV, TB and malaria kill millions of people each year, destroying the lives of the most vulnerable people. In 2017, 1.6 million people died from TB, the world’s deadliest infectious disease.

Since 2002, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria has helped save the lives of 27 million people – the UK’s contribution alone has helped save the lives of over 2 million people. The Global Fund pools resources, provides technical expertise, and gains funding from the private sector and affected countries.

Supporting multilateral institutions like the Global Fund is the best way of spending UK aid money, and ensures that aid reaches more people, saves more lives and lifts more people out of poverty.

Ending HIV, TB and malaria is within our grasp, but we need to step up the fight. The Global Fund brings donors together to fight the three diseases and helps deliver health for all. If we don’t invest now, we put at risk decades of progress, threatening the health of people all around the world.

Please help us support the work of the Global Fund, by ensuring that the UK makes an ambitious pledge to the Global Fund in 2019, as a critical part of achieving health for all.
